The port to PC mouse/keyboard controls was done half-heartedly and is not great - and movement also felt a bit jerky.
The game was obviously made for consoles and favours a controller.
The environments are nicely done, and the Arkids are well animated with intimidating features. You can occupy and use those to aid you in battle. The game can be played on foot where you pick up weapons and shoot your ways through the levels, but as the game progress, you will run into Vital Suits – which is another term for mechs. Wayne journey begins simply as a quest for revenge but ends in helping to foil the NEVEC cooperation plans for the planet. In its 11 missions, you play Wayne Holden who witnesses the death of his father by one of the Arkids called "Green Eye" (a big bug with lots of… green eyes). The game is played from either a 3rd or 1st view perspective, although it seems to have been designed more to the earlier. The cooperation in charge of the settlement is planning to use the planet energy resources to turn it into a green paradise, and the real implications and costs of this idea are the driving forces behind the game’s story. The planet is populated by an Alian bug-like race called the Akrid, whose bodies can store some of that energy, so killing an enemy is also a chance to collect its life energy source. You have both a shooter and Mechs in one go – what could possibly go wrong? In "Lost Planet: Extreme Condition", humans populate a frozen planet and harvest its energy resources. On the other hand – they do like big pilotable robots, so here come a game that tries to augment one with the other. You can find plenty of RPS and platformers, but shooters are usually perceived as mindless killing and not much of a chance for a complex story, so they don't sell well over there. 10h 20m PlayedI was playing a month of Japanese games, and only then realised that the Japanese are not into shooters.
